Phase and Orientation Analysis of Bismuth Germanium Oxide (BGO) on Evaporated Aluminum
Crystallographic texture plays a pivotal role in materials science, significantly enhancing the functional properties of polycrystalline materials in engineering applications. Leveraging the advanced capabilities of the TESCAN TENSOR, we conducted a nanoscale orientation and phase analysis of BGO on aluminum using ACOM-TEM analysis, resulting in a comprehensive 4D data cube.
Phase Mapping
-
In just 7 minutes, the system completed optical adjustments and alignments, including precession. The phase map distinctly highlighted aluminium in red and BGO in green, with bright colours indicating high confidence in phase indexing.
Advantage of Precession
-
Precession significantly improves phase mapping accuracy by enhancing diffraction patterns. Even with a small angle of 0.5°, it provides more diffraction spots and a better signal-to-noise ratio.
Orientation Mapping
-
The orientation map employs a colour scheme from the inverse pole figure, with pixel brightness reflecting confidence in the analysis. This method effectively identifies structural features smaller than 10 nm.
The TESCAN TENSOR offers rapid, nanoscale precession-assisted phase and orientation analysis with integrated 4D STEM capabilities, as demonstrated through the detailed analysis of BGO on aluminium.
